This summer, In The Pocket will launch a creative challenge for young talents. The Ghent-based digital product studio will be offering an intensive training course for recent graduates during its Summer Academy. This unique three-day course includes a collaboration with Refu Interim, a project developed by production house cirQ vzw that aims to give political refugees their first work experiences on Belgian soil.
From 27 to 30 July, ten recent graduates will get the chance to immerse themselves in the digital world during In The Pocket’s Summer Academy. While familiarising themselves with the ins and outs of the digital sphere, the grads will be presented with a highly topical challenge. As a team, they will be asked to build a business case on behalf of Refu Interim, the temporary employment agency that helps train asylum seekers for volunteer work in the cultural, social and leisure industries.
Graduates take up roles in society
In The Pocket’s objective of forming a link between the digital industry and one of today’s biggest challenges does not come as a surprise.
As a future-focused digital product studio, we zoom in on the goals of businesses and the needs of their audiences through the process of Design Thinking. This is how we develop digital solutions that drive real business growth. Our Summer Academy builds on this concept, tailoring it to the requirements of Refu Interim to help the organisation reach their target group more easily.
Digital platform for asylum seekers
Refu Interim is a job creation programme developed by Ghent-based production house cirQ. The project was rolled out in February 2017 and aims to build upon the success of BataHlan, an initiative which saw eighty volunteer roles filled by refugees during the 2016 Gentse Feesten, a key summer festival held in Ghent.
Refu Interim has a very broad target group: asylum seekers looking for their first employment opportunities in Belgium. What they all have in common are smartphones, which will be the starting point for a brand-new digital product or platform that will be used by Refu Interim to keep approximately one hundred refugees up-to-date. The graduates enrolled in the Summer Academy course who have real passions for digital innovation will play crucial roles in this process.
