Meet our Cloud developer, Toon
Every month, we move our spotlight to someone behind In The Pocket's screens. Who are the people behind the digital products? What drives them? And what can they teach us? Time to have a chat with one of our Cloud developers, Toon!
"The nice thing is that when it does get frustrating, you know your team will have your back."
Give me your best metaphor for being a Cloud developer at ITP.
It truly feels like being a kid in a candy store. You can have a taste of all the different flavours that cloud development has to offer. From setting-up cloud infrastructure, optimising CI/CD pipelines, coding micro-services in a variety of different languages to monitoring and maintaining big production environments. It is truly fun and gives you a lot of energy (albeit not from the sugar).
What superpowers do you need to execute your job?
I think it is important to have a big appetite for learning and trying out new things. Although the major cloud providers have been around for a while now, it is still a very rapidly evolving industry. It feels like every day a new cloud service or technology pops up and at times it can feel quite overwhelming. But knowing which technology fits best for your use case can really make the difference between a good and a great product.
If something fails for the fifth time. Rage quit? Or peaceful Buddha?
I definitely won’t claim I’m on par with Buddha, but I do usually keep my cool. Most developers know it’s kind of rare that things work right out of the gate. In fact, finding out why things don’t work is often a very interesting and fun challenge. A bit like solving a complex puzzle.
The nice thing is that when it does get frustrating, you know your team will have your back. Creating top-notch digital products is always a team effort and I never encountered a problem we weren’t able to tackle when we put our minds together.
