Check out Telenet's first AR experience for customers
Since Apple’s keynote last month, AR has started to flow into the mainstream. The benefits of AR (augmented reality) in industrial contexts have long been clear. Telenet, however, understood the potential of AR for consumers and joined forces with In The Pocket to create the first AR experience for their customers.
An entire team went the extra mile to develop a working prototype of the AR Self Install app for Digicorders in just a few short weeks.
The challenge
Create an innovative self-installation solution
A lot of Telenet customers prefer to install their Digicorder themselves, but for some it turns out to be quite a challenge. What does an HDMI-cable look like? And where do you plug it into your Digicorder? Telenet wanted to find an innovative and intuitive solution to self-installation problems.
AR seemed like the perfect candidate, as it has the amazing ability to enter the user’s world and simply show them what to do. But for Telenet, AR was unknown territory. An experiment was called for.
The solution
Explore the possibilities of AR
Over a very short time span, our Roadmap to AR showed Telenet whether AR could be useful in solving the self-installation issue.
During the sessions, we created a prototype for an AR experience that visually guides customers through the self-installation process. No more wondering which one’s the HDMI-cable. Through their tablet or phone, customers immediately see which cable to put where.
The approach
Develop a working prototype
We developed a working prototype of the experience in 3 simple steps:
- Discovery: we looked at different possibilities and decided on a final solution and basic design to prototype.
- Prototyping: we developed a working prototype of the app. Regular demos and feedback moments gave us the agility to improve as we went on.
- Testing and validating: we invited different users to try out the prototype and see if the goal (making self-installation easy and pleasant) was reached.
The result
Determine the viability of an AR solution quickly and at a moderate cost
We provided Telenet with a fast and low-cost solution to find out whether their idea was viable. As expected, AR turned out to be a great asset. So who knows, maybe you’ll be using Telenet’s AR app yourself soon. Or maybe newly hired Telenet technicians will even be using a similar AR app for professional use. Why not?
