Feedback loops are the
cornerstone of agility

In short

In organizations, agility only emerges if we implement
structures that conduct feedback. This allows the
organization to self-correct and adjust operations
according to the difference between the actual output
and the desired output.

PDSA feedback loop

Seemingly simple, the PDCA cycle is a powerful framework for iterative learning and improvement. Walter Deming was the first to apply it to an organization, which resulted in the famous Toyota Production System. This method revolutionized both the car industry and management theory.

People

People thrive in a high-trust feedback culture. The ability to give and receive constructive feedback is the best-kept secret of high-performing teams. Organizations without a feedback culture are prone to groupthink and blind spots in their mental models of the world.

Process

In order to deal with changing circumstances, we never stop questioning  how we do things. We do regular experiments to improve and we only keep the practices and structures that work.

Product

"One of the most common traps in product is to believe that we can anticipate our customer's actual response to our products." (Marty Cagan, Inspired). The inconvenient truth is: we can't. That's why validate our product ideas and listen to customers and users.

Strategy

Business strategy is very much like science. We observe our environment and ask ourselves: what problem are we trying to solve? Then we form a hypothesis: what could we do differently to solve the problem? In the end, the rubber has to meet the road. We need to run experiments, analyze the results and feed them back into our mental model. This feedback loop, when institutionalized, is the key to bringing strategy to fulfillment.
